NW Regional Championships
At the end of the NW competition season, a Regional
Championship trophy will be awarded to the highest scoring pilot in each of
the five IMAC classes, Basic through Unlimited. In addition, a senior trophy
will be awarded to the pilot over sixty who is the most consistent highest
scorer in this senior group. Pilots will accrue points that count toward
these Regional Championships by competing in sanctioned IMAC contests in the
Northwest Region. The rules for the NW Regional Championships follow.
NW Regional Contest:
An IMAC contest will only result in the awarding of
points that count toward NW Regional Championships if it meets the following
criteria:
| 1. |
It must be held within the NW Region
boundaries. Out of Region Contests may be included at the discretion
of the NW Regional Director. |
| 2. |
It must have the proper sanction of
the Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA) or, if in Canada, the Model
Aeronautics Association of Canada (MAAC). |
| 3. |
It must be approved by the NW Regional
Director as a regional points contest. |
| 4. |
It must be run in accordance with the
current IMAC Flying & Judging Guide. |
| 5. |
It must be scored with the current NW
Region scoring program including the senior championship. |
| 6. |
Contest results must be submitted to
the Regional Director or the Regional Web Master within one week of
the conclusion of the contest. |

Contest Drop Schedule:
Contest scores will be accumulated by pilots as the
season progresses and similar to contest scoring, some number of contests
will be dropped, i.e., each pilot will be able to drop one or more of his
worst scores. The number of contests dropped will be a function of the total
number of contests flown in the region for the season and drop schedule is
detailed in the following table:

Pilots Eligible for Participation in Regional
Championships:
Only pilots who are current IMAC members within the NW
Region at the time of a contest may accrue regional points at that contest.
In addition, military personnel located in the NW Region who are IMAC
members but who are registered in a different region may participate in the
NW Regional Championship. These military folks should declare their
intention to participate to the NW Regional Director and the regional
scorer/web master.
Note that joining IMAC in mid season will only provide
for accumulation of regional points for contests flown after the membership
date. Any contests flown during the season before a pilot joins IMAC and the
NW region will not be retroactively counted.
Regional Points:
Each pilot that flies in a NW Regional Contest will
accrue some number of regional points that will count toward the Regional
Championship in the class he is flying. Should a pilot change class during
the season, the points he has accumulated in his current class will not
transfer to his new class. Also, regional points will only be awarded to
pilots who fly against at least one competitor at the contest being scored.
Should a pilot find himself as the only pilot in a class that has been
offered at a contest, he may fly and he will win the class trophy for that
contest but he will not be awarded regional points for that contest.
The regional points awarded to each pilot for a given
contest will be normalized similar to the manner in which sequence scores
are normalized during a contest. That is to say that the contest winner in a
class will receive 1000 regional points for that contest and all other
pilots will receive a number of regional points that are proportionate to
the winner based on each pilots final contest score. In addition to the
normalized regional points, each pilot will receive 5 additional bonus
regional points for each pilot he beats in the contest.

These regional points will be accumulated as the season
progresses and each pilots worst scores will be dropped according to the
drop schedule above.
Senior Championship:
For the purpose of the senior championship, a senior is
defined as anyone sixty years of age or older at the start of any NW
contest. These senior pilots, in all classes, will compete for the senior
trophy at each NW contest as well as for the year end senior championship.
Competition for the senior contest trophy at each contest is based on each
pilot’s percentage of the total maximum possible raw score achieved at the
contest. The regional points that then are awarded to each senior pilot will
be calculated in the same manner as the regional points calculation just
described above, i.e., they will be normalized. Thus, the senior, no matter
which class, whose final contest score is the highest percentage of his
maximum potential score will receive 1000 regional points toward the senior
regional championship plus 5 points for each senior pilot he beats. All
other senior pilots will then be awarded a proportionate number of senior
regional points for that contest based on their final percentage achieved
relative to the winner - plus 5 points for each senior pilot they beat.
Regional Championship Contest:
The NW Regional Championship contest will be the last
contest of the season where a pilot will be able to accrue regional points
that count toward the individual regional championships. The NW Regional
Director, at the beginning of each season, will work with the various clubs
in the region and choose the host club for the Regional Championship
contest. The goal is to move this contest around the region from year to
year.
Regional points at this contest will be calculated as
described above but they will carry a 50% premium. This means that a class
winner will be award 1500 regional points plus 5 points for each pilot in
class that he beats. All other pilots earning regional points at this
contest will be awarded points in a similar fashion based on their finishing
position in class at this contest.
Tie Breaker for Regional Championships:
In the event that, after completion of the Regional
Championship Contest, two pilots end up with identical scores the following
tie break process will apply:
| |
- The primary tie break will be the highest “dropped score” at
the Regional Championship Contest. |
| |
- The secondary tie break becomes necessary if, after applying
the primary tie breaker, the two pilots still have identical scores.
In this case the secondary tie breaker will be the next highest
“dropped score” at the Regional Championship Contest. |
| |
- If, after applying the primary and secondary tie breakers, the
two pilots still have identical scores, they will be considered
co-champions and they will share that season’s Regional
Championship. |
If, for some reason, the Regional Championship
Contest is cancelled and two pilots are tied, then the last scored contest
prior to the Regional Championship Contest which included either pilot will
serve as the tie breaker and the above tie breaker process will be applied.
If the Regional Championship Contest is held but neither of the pilots
involved in the tie flew in it, then the contest closest to the Regional
Championship Contest that either pilot flew in will be used as the tie
breaker contest and the above tie breaker process will be applied.
Post Season Contest:
Contests may be held within the region after the NW
Regional Championship Contest. The usual contest trophies will be awarded at
these contests but the results will not be counted in the Regional
Championships for the current year nor will they count toward the regional
races for the following year.
